TEAM boss Cami Brown says his team will need “character, spirit and desire” to seal the Cab Direct Championship title at Poole.
The Allied Vehicles Tigers produced a powerhouse 52-38 win over the defending champions Pirates in the Grand Final first leg at Ashfield on Monday night.
Chris Harris was sensational for the home side with a paid maximum as they hit the seasiders hard in the early stages.
Poole showed excellent resolve to fight back in the latter part of the clash and it sets up a fascinating second leg at Wimborne Road on Wednesday night.
Brown said: “We knew Poole were going to come back at us, they are too good a team.
“But that’s their biggest defeat of the season. If you’d asked me before whether I’d take a 14-point lead, of course I’d take it.
“Our target is now 39 points. If we can do that I’ll be the happiest man on this planet for the fans, riders and the owners.
“We are going to need spades of character, spirit and desire at Poole on Wednesday night.
“We hit them hard and early tonight but we need to do the same down there.
“We had a team meeting afterwards tonight. It’s half-time, it’s nil-nil. We don’t have a lead, that’s the way we are looking at it. We go down there with a belief to win the meeting.”
Brown paid tribute to his side at their final home meeting of the campaign at Ashfield.
He added: “We’ve already had a terrific season. We’ve been unbeaten at home in the league and BSN Series. We lost once to Redcar in the KO Cup without Ben Basso.
“We’ve won more meetings away than we’ve lost. The boys have been fantastic to be that good. We’ve been remarkably good this season along with Poole and Oxford.
“But I guess the season will ultimately be defined by whether we get 39 points at Poole.”
