There is everything to race for this Sunday afternoon as our namesakes from the Steel City arrive at Ashfield intent on avoiding becoming the first visiting club to lose out since 5th May.
If ever there was any thought of this meeting being a ‘going through the motions’ type of affair then that has been dispelled by the quality of guest riders introduced by both sides who are clearly intent on claiming pride as well as a victory.
The home side will once again be managed by Stewart Dickson who, as threatened following last week’s heavy home defeat to Ipswich, has reshuffled his rider resources to try and help find a healthier points return.
Coming in to wear the No.1 race jacket for the Western Commercial Tigers is fans favourite Edinburgh rider, and member of Glasgow’s 2011 title winning side, Theo Pijper which should bolster the top end scoring potential in the home camp.
Tigers will otherwise be unchanged other than a revised riding order as confirmed below.
Glasgow fans will hope for another vintage performance from James Grieves who this week will have to do battle with some track experts drafted in to the visitors.
With Sheffield having suffered injury to two of their heatleaders, and with their new German signing committed elsewhere on Sunday and thus able to deploy Rider Replacement, the Yorkshire Tigers have moved to secure two guest riders who are particularly adept around the Ashfield circuit – each of Richard Lawson and Kevin Doolan will offer up strong support to Ricky Wells. The meeting also sees Andre Compton made a return to Glasgow for the first time since being recalled to Owlerton following a 28 day loan as a Glasgow rider earlier this year.

An update with regards to our ‘fence fundraising’ activities.
STARs to hold funds – We have come to an agreement with the STARs Committee that they will administer all supporter donations in respect of the ‘fence fund’ and in doing so this ensures that such monies are securely held, and preserved exactly for the purpose intended. Accordingly donations can now be made directly, via bank transfer online or in person, to their dedicated account at RBS Sort Code 83-21-10 and account number 00271134.
If you wish to donate by cash or cheque you can do so on race day, please see any of the committee members.
Anonymous donations will be accepted but, in the event that the fund raising target is not met, STARs will only be able to return all monies to identifiable donors.
Monies raised from this Sunday’s Growler’s Club sponsored walk and from George Steven’s sponsored head shave, will be collected by STARs.
Bargain Hunting – The club merchandising stock will this week reflect some price reductions on a range of goods, and Colin & Margaret are also intending to run a fund raiser raffle of a large, signed Shane Parker action photo (taken by Mike Patrick) with monies raised being to the benefit of the fence fund.
Future Fund raising – Discussions continue around us being able to stage a ‘fence fund’ dedicated meeting before the end of this season, as well as opening up the ability to pre-sell advertising panels on any new protective barrier which is purchased for next season. More information as and when we can release this.
