Everyone at the club, riders included, are disappointed at not having managed to get off to a winning return on Sunday following our 4 week lay-off from action at Ashfield.
We really do feel that we ought to have been good enough, particularly in our newly strengthened state, to have coped with an under strength (on paper at least) Rye House side.
It didn’t happen. We allowed the Rockets to make a strong start and that put ourselves under pressure which probably affected some of the riders at various times during the meeting when we crucially dropped points.
Certainly we haven’t allowed any heads to drop, we still have reason to be optimistic having freshened up the side and having seen some positive reactions from riders in recent weeks. Everyone at the club wants us to battle our way back to feeling much happier about life, and more confident about the challenges ahead.
That was last week. We simply have to let it go and move on to the next challenge which comes when we travel to face Sheffield tomorrow night.
The Yorkshire Tigers themselves aren’t enjoying the best of seasons, and we believe they have a few injury worries ahead of our visit, added to the shock news that Joe Haines has announced his immediate retiral from the sport – could we be arriving there at just the right time to create a surprise result?
Certainly Joe Screen, who rates the Owlerton circuit as one of his favourites, will want to produce a scintillating farewell performance there, as will James Grieves, whilst Dakota has had very recent experience of racing their fast track. Certainly we travel there looking to put in another strong performance on the back of our most recent improved away score at Berwick.
Fans travelling to take in the World U21 round at Berwick on Saturday night may well get to see a Tiger in action with the news that Joe Jacobs has been called-up as 2nd reserve for the meeting. Whether he will get the opportunity to take to track remains to be seen, however the experience of rubbing shoulders with the very best young talent in the sport will be beneficial.
Certainly we will head towards this Sunday’s return visit by Edinburgh with confidence in our collective ability to compete strongly, and hopefully to achieve what we all want to – more on that particular fixture towards the end of the week.
