Sunday sound check

Another Sunday race day has arrived, and it provides the very latest Scottish derby occasion to get the blood and andenalin pumping.

In just a few hours time the Western Commercial Tigers will again lock handlebars with their oldest adversaries’ from Edinburgh. It may well be an out of season meeting to round off the Spring Trophy, however when our clubs come together there is always extra pride,  determination and bragging rights to settle too!

The handful of showers around will not at all dampen the excitement of today’s Tigers V Monarchs clash. News from the stadium this morning is that the track looks terrific and in prime condition to act as our stage to another derby classic encounter.

It may be his final couple of months racing before the curtain comes down on a long, distinguished track career, however Tigers skipper Joe Screen is determined to go out in style with some performances which will roll back the years.

A little frustrated with some recent performances, Joe has been working extremely hard this week to secure some quicker and stronger engines to help him rediscover the style, and points scoring, we all associate with such a top rider. Hopefully we will all get to enjoy seeing Joe back in front more regularly and many more of those spectacular sweeping overtakes up and down Ashfield’s banked bends.

The story of this season, for both clubs, so far is that ..
.. the Tigers have struggled and are absolutely desperate to start winning again
.. the Monarchs have barely stopped winning and are desperate to maintain that momentum

Something has to change for at least one of the teams between now and the conclusion of this season, might today be the start of a different change in fortunes for someone?

One thing’s for sure, the Tigers are a stronger proposition than when the teams last fought it out at Ashfield, and with a meeting on the grippier Ashfield circuit under our belts, Glasgow must have our best chance yet of claiming some glory over our rivals.

No doubt the blue & gold will be in great evidence on the terraces this afternoon as the visitors expect another win, so let’s make sure we contest off track too. We’d like all of you to look out your scarves (yes, even though it’s mild!) and make sure that there is no doubting who you support or who the home side happens to be. We haven’t had an awful lot to cheer about in a while, let’s do something about that today .. so let’s fly the colours, no “maybe” and no “might” ..let’s all proudly wear, lots of red & white!

Look forward to seeing and hearing you get behind the Tigers this afternoon.

PS – remember you can book your places at our forthcoming Sports Dinner event and even purchase tickets at the stadium today!
