RED-HOT Brit prospect Will Cairns admits there’s no “pressure” on him to seal the British Youth title.
The Aylesbury 15-year-old arrives at Ashfield on Sunday ready to confirm his 500cc success after dominating the five rounds so far.
Cairns has become the hottest property in British speedway after several huge scores since making his National Development League debut this season for Belle Vue Colts.
He will be the headline act as the cream of Brit kids take to the track for the last meeting of the season at Glasgow.
Cairns said: “I don’t think there’s a lot of pressure to be honest. I’ve done really well over the previous rounds.
“But I’ve just got to keep my concentration for the final two at Edinburgh and Glasgow on Sunday.
“It will be the end of an era as I end my time in the British Youth Championship. I’m proud of how far I’ve come and it would be good to end on a high.
“There have been some big names down the years to have won it and it will be good to join that list. When I get the trophy my dad and I will have five minutes looking at the names.
“It’s definitely daunting to be my last year in the Youth Championship. Next year I move up into the Cab Direct Championship and hopefully get some guest bookings in the Premiership.
“I’ve also been talking to some Under-24 teams in Poland and in the Swedish second division. I’ll possibly be doing five leagues in three countries.
“So I’m going from a 15-year-old schoolboy to be a full-fledged professional rider. It’s definitely going to be a different ball game.”
Cairns has already had a taste of Ashfield shale and is looking forward to his last big action in the Youth Championship.
He said: “I’ve been to Glasgow a few times. I was fortunate enough to do a practice day at Ashfield earlier this year.
“I really enjoyed the place. To be honest it’s one of my favourite tracks and I can’t wait to get there on Sunday.”
Young Scot Stene Pijper, Cooper Rushen, Ollie Binns, Seth Norman and Oliver Bovingdon are also in action.
There are 32 riders taking part over 32 races with four different classes in what promises to be an exciting final afternoon of the campaign at Ashfield.
