Q & A with Danyon Hume

We had a Questions and Answers night with Danyon Hume on Instagram on Friday night – thanks to everyone who submitted questions to Danyon. For those who missed it – here’s what he had to say!

Q1. What made you get into Speedway Racing?

A. I watched a speedway meeting in Coventry and got the bug straight away

Q2. Favourite track to go to and why?

A. It’s got to be Glasgow because there’s so many lines to overtake and it’s enjoyable due to the speed you can get up to.

Q3. How exciting is it on Derby day versus Edinburgh?

A. Considering I’d never experienced it until this year, it’s quite intense but it’s a good buzz and I thrive off it.

Q4. If you had to pick a rider in the Glasgow team to be stuck on an island with, who would it be?

A. It’s got to be the legend Benjamin Basso.

Q5. How do I become a speedway mechanic?

A. That’s a hard one for me to answer, think that’s a question for the legend Gary Ball.

Q6. Favourite thing and least favourite thing about being a speedway rider?

A. Fav thing – got to be a race win, it’s the best feeling! Least fav – when you’re on the sidelines injured and when the season ends.

Q7. How do you get into speedway riding?

A. I’d recommend a Ride and Slide Day they provide all the kit and it gives you a taster for the sport.

Q8. What’s the most technical track to ride and why?

A. I would have to say Lakeside before they closed because it’s a small track and you have to be clever on the throttle. You can’t just ride it flat.

Q9. What’s been the highlight of your speedway career so far?

A. The most up to date highlight would be winning the double with Poole last year.

Q10. Who is your favourite team to ride against?

A. Edinburgh Monarchs

Q11. What’s the best part about speedway for you?

A. All of it, from the minute I leave the workshop till the minute I get home.

Q12. What’s it like when you race round the track?

A. It’s the most intense and high adrenaline rush in the world, it’s a good buzz!

Q13. Is Sheffield a nice track to ride?

A. Yeah it’s a cool fast track, enjoyed my time riding for them.

Q14. How are the team slot chats for next year going?

A. Not too shabby!

Q15. Do you understand the Glasgwegin accent yet?

A. Yeah I’ve got used to it. I spend a lot of time in Scotland with my little boy.

Q16. Who inspired you to do speedway?

A. All the GP riders inspire me as that’s the level I want to be at/

Q17. What’s your music in the van on long trips?

A. It’s got to be Ed Sheeran or Burna Boy

Q18. What’s your least favourite track and why?

A. Probably Plymouth because it’s gaters paradise.

Q19. Where do you see your career in 5 years?

A. I want to be British Champion

Q20. Do you think you’ll be coming back next year?

A. I’d love to be back, hopefully, I’ve proved myself enough to come back.

Q21. How much are you hoping to improve your average?

A. As much as I can, the more m average goes up the more I’m improving as a rider.

Q22. What’s your favourite away track in the Championship league?

A. When it’s prepped on a good day, Bimingham!

Q23. What’s the best thing about being a Pro and the worst?

A. Best – I get paid to do my dream job.

A. Worst – When you put in all the effort to travel and the meeting gets rained off.

Q24. Thoughts on Wolves’ track?

A. Yeah it’s a technical track but I also enjoy visiting.

Q25 You think you’ll ride in Poland one day?

A. Yeah hopefully one day.
