TEAM boss Cami Brown vowed there would not be any “complacency” despite a vital win at Scunthorpe.
The Allied Vehicles Tigers produced an excellent all-round display to take a 46-44 victory at the Eddie Wright Raceway in the first leg of the BSN Series semi-final on Friday night.
Ben Basso and Chris Harris secured the last heat 3-3 to ensure Tigers became the first away team to win in North Lincolnshire for over a year.
It leaves the tie perfectly poised for a second leg classic at Ashfield next Friday (May 19).
Brown insisted: “I know it’s a cliche, but it’s true, this is only half time of this tie. We’ve got a big second leg to come at Ashfield next Friday.
“Scunthorpe are a strong side and have guys who like our track and they will be fired-up to do the same to us.
“We had a team meeting before we left the track and praised the boys. But it was made clear that it’s far from over. There simply cannot be any complacency next week. We still need to be strong at home and finish the job.”
It was a fierce meeting on a track conducive to brilliant racing.
The highlights for the Tigers were two outstanding rides from the back from young Ace Pijper. But it was a solid display right through the order with every other rider paid for at least one race victory.
Brown continued: “That was our biggest test so far and there will probably be bigger ones to come.
“What I liked was that all the boys contributed in some way right the way through.
“Every single one of them did their bit. Lee (Complin) had bike problems but we stuck with him in Heat 12 and he came up with a vital 5-1.
“Ace (Pijper) was fabulous. Two brilliant second places from the back on an away track and probably deserved more.
“Chris (Harris) was a great team man all night, Marcin (Nowak) popped up with two brilliant rides and Ben (Basso), Tom (Brennan) and Claus (Vissing) all produced vital performances.
“It was a bit feisty at times, rough and tumble, but it was proper speedway on a very good Scunthorpe track which made for a terrific meeting.”
