JAMES Sarjeant says he’s ready to focus on a charge for the play-offs after coming through one of the most hectic periods of his life.
The 25-year-old Yorkshireman and partner Morgan welcomed daughter Bella to the world last week and Sarj has spent the last few days acclimatising to fatherhood.
He was given an extra day with the little one on Friday when Glasgow’s home meeting against Newcastle fell victim to the rain – but the Tigers travel to the north-east tonight to face the Diamonds in another crucial Championship clash – with Sarjeant now working out how to balance racing with family life.
He said: “Things have been pretty good – we’ve had a lot of visitors so it’s been pretty busy the last week.
“I’m not too sure what the challenges of balancing family and speedway life will be. We’ll just cross those bridges when we get to them, but I’m positive, we’ve got some good people around us and I’m looking forward to some new challenges.”
Glasgow travel without captain Craig Cook who is racing in day two of the Speedway of Nations final for Great Britain, with Edinburgh No 1 Sam Masters stepping in as a guest.
Sarjeant says the strong bond between the Tigers riders can help them keep up their strong form as the season progresses.
“There’s no doubt we’ll miss Craig but the rest of us will have to pull together and make up for his absence. I’m sure Sam will do a good job for us,” he said.
“We’ve got a good team – we have a group of lads that get on well and some good team spirit. We’ve got to keep the momentum going all the way to the play-offs.”
With the summer holidays well under way, it’s expected a strong travelling support will back the Tigers on track – something Sarjeant acknowledges as playing a big part in the club’s success.
He added: “The Glasgow fans have been great this season – they make me feel at home every week. I don’t think it’s any secret that I love coming up to Glasgow and racing every week in front of them. My message to them would be to keep up the support.”
