Following the disappointment of last week’s rain-off, once again we can all look forward to the prospect of getting to enjoy some first class speedway this Sunday afternoon when the new look Western Commercial Tigers septet will aim to end the clubs all too long losing streak.
The home side will be at full strength with a line-up, and riding order, which secured our first 40+ away score of the season at Berwick last Saturday. The only exception, and added benefit, is the introduction of Aussie international Dakota North to the side – indeed both North and Danish starlet Anders Thomsen will, at long last, be making their home debuts in a rejuvenated Tigers side which is super determined to restrict the visitors to a lowly points score.
Standing in the home side’s way on Sunday, having already dumped the Tigers out of this seasons Knock Out Cup, are the Rye House Rockets who will travel optimistically back to Ashfield. With a couple of injury issues of their own the Rockets have a changed, and interesting, line-up on Sunday.
Leading their challenge, and his first racing appearance in Glasgow since leaving the club, is fans favourite Josh Grajczonek who deputises for the not yet fit Ollie Allan. Rockets also track the GP experienced Jason Bunyan who missed their previous trip to Glasgow, and former Wolves star Pontus Aspgren who has impressed since joining the Rockets.
Full line-ups are:
Glasgow Joe Screen, Dakota North, Henning Bager, Anders Thomsen, James Grieves, Joey Ringwood, Joe Jacobs
Rye House Josh Grajczonek (guest), Jason Bunyan, Anders Mellgren, Ben Hopwood (guest), Tyson Nelson R/R, Kasper Lykke, Pontus Aspgren
With a now all too long gap since we last seen some speedway action in Glasgow, this Sunday’s league clash is eagerly awaited with most focus on Tigers’ debutants and to see if the side can instantly gel sufficiently on track to claim the club’s first win since early May.
There is a quiet optimism in the home camp that this could just be the week, however we cannot and will not underestimate the Rockets.
We look forward to seeing you flock back to the Ashfield terraces this Sunday to welcome the new lads and to cheer on the Tigers to better times ahead.
PS – Please keep your eyes and ears open for more details on our forthcoming Fund Raiser Sports Dinner event – tickets are now available and can ordered/collected at the stadium on Sunday.
