CHRIS HARRIS was delighted to finally land the Championship League Riders’ title after a 25-YEAR wait.
The Glasgow No.1 roared past Allied Vehicles Tigers team-mate Kyle Howarth to win the final at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Sunday afternoon.
It meant that Glasgow competed the top two in the event and ‘Bomber’ was clearly over the moon to win in Scunthorpe.
He said: “This is a really special win for me. It’s a title I wanted to tick off my list. I’ve won almost everything now in British speedway.
“Apart from a few years off, I’ve been in this league since 2000 with Exeter, so it’s nice to finally win the riders’ title.
“The day started good and then there were a few issues with set-ups.
“We made a bit of a gamble in the final and it worked. I made the cut back and went through the middle.
“Kyle and I had a discussion over gate positions. I thought it might be wet off gate four after the track grade.”
Harris began the afternoon with an incredible third to first burst on the line to open his account. He ended with nine points and won through from the semi-final.
Howarth had a similar afternoon, gradually building momentum to score 10 points and followed Harris home in the final after initially leading.
He added: “In all honesty I’m really happy with second place. I started with a last in the first one. That wasn’t the plan. Once I managed to get the set-up, I was away.
“I’m just pleased we could do this for Glasgow, we made the semis yesterday in the Pairs.
“But it’s been a great start with the win at Edinburgh and now top two in the CLRC.”
