TEAM boss Cami Brown said Chris Harris was “out of this world” after he guided them to a tense victory.
The Allied Vehicles Tigers beat Workington 47-43 in their opening Cab Direct Championship clash at Ashfield.
The Cumbrian side gave the defending league champs a stern test with ex-Tigers Craig Cook and Claus Vissing impressing.
But skipper Harris delivered a perfect 15-point maximum to help steer the home side to a vital win.
Brown admitted: “Chris was out of this world, he led us to another big victory.
“Workington are one of the most in-form sides in the UK and we knew it would be tough.
“But Chris won all the big races including two of the last three to make sure we didn’t slip up.
“There were some big performances from the boys. Leon Flint and James Pearson were excellent. But once again Jack Smith was the hero at reserve.
“As a team we still have a lot to work on. Steve Worrall and Paul Starke had a tough night but I’m encouraged with the fighting spirit of this side.”
The Tigers led 10-2 after two races thanks to a bit of fortune. In the opening heat Craig Cook had to go off 15 metres after being excluded for exceeding the two-minute warning. Then the excellent Tate Zischke suffered an engine failure while leading.
However the Comets reeled the Tigers lead back in to draw level after Heat 11.
A vital 4-2 in the next race gave them the lead again and Harris won the big Heats 13 and 15 to secure victory.
