With a much improved weather forecast in place, this Sunday is Premier League match day 24 for the Western Commercial Tigers as we round off what has been an exceptionally tough league season.
Making their third attempt to visit Ashfield this year are the Plymouth Devils who, like all before them, will travel North confident of leaving Ashfield with something to show for their efforts, indeed the Devils management have gone on record to state that they are targeting their trip to Glasgow for some vital away points.
Sunday will notably mark the occasion, after a long and distinguished 23 season career, of being James Grieves’ last ever league meeting, and will be his final opportunity to further cement his position as the clubs all time second highest points scorer – see a special message from James below.
Plymouth track a very interesting side which has a blend of youth, experience and proven ability, containing several riders already with Ashfield experience this season.
The Devils will return to Ashfield without their World Cup winner Dane Mikkel Bech who has a previous commitment on the continent, however they have moved swiftly to introduce no less than the new Premier League Riders Champion Olly Allen who will ride at No.1.
One Plymouth rider looking to make an impression on his Ashfield debut is young Dane Rasmus Jensen who has settled in very well to British speedway since linking up with the Devon side. Having guested for the Tigers just a few weeks ago, veteran Aussie Mark Lemon also returns to Ashfield on Sunday as skipper of the visitors.
For the home side, we welcome back league winning Tiger Theo Pijper to lead the side, the Tigers will otherwise be at full strength with Anders Thomsen now fully recovered from his spill in our last home meeting.
We can now confirm that Sunday will also be our final chance to say “thank you and farewell” this season to both Dakota North and Joey Ringwood. Both riders are booked to return Down Under shortly, and will each wish to continue their excellent form of recent weeks and to sign-off with winning performances against the Devils.
Full declared line-ups for Sunday are:
Glasgow Theo Pijper (G), Henning Bager, Anders Thomsen, James Grieves (C), Dakota North, Joe Jacobs, Joey Ringwood
Plymouth Olly Allen, Todd Kurtz, Rasmus Jensen, Michael Palm Toft, Mark Lemon (C), Simon Nielsen (G), Jake Anderson
Supporters should listen out for an update on Sunday as regards October fixtures – we can confirm however that we will NOT now be staging the City of Glasgow Commonwealth Games Open this season.
A reminder that the Tigers Merchandise stand is currently selling a range of products at reduced prices – up to 60% savings are available on all items.
There is limited stock of Tigers jackets, holdall bags, scarves, polo shirts, t-shirts, baseball caps, beanies, mugs and 2014 calendars – first come, first served to pick up a bargain!
We are also still keen to be contacted by anyone who would like to discuss, pre book or introduce us to businesses interested in advertising on one/more of the air fence panels which will require to be in situ at Ashfield in 2014 – remember too that these advertising packages are valid for seasons 2014 & 2015 and therefore offer tremendous value for money. Please speak with any of the management team on race day, else in the first instance email the club at info@glasgowtigers.co
