GLASGOW has been talked up to be a new addition to the Speedway Grand Prix calendar.
FIM Track Racing Director Armando Castagna has given his approval for Ashfield Stadium to stage the first-ever SGP in Scotland.
The venue has already staged a GP Challenge and two GP Qualifiers along with a FIM World Under-21 Team Championship semi-final and an SGP2 Qualifier earlier this season.
However an SGP event would be the biggest-ever speedway meeting held in Scotland.
The club are likely to stage a SGP Qualifier again in 2026 but it’s clear an actual SGP is in the pipeline.
Castagna said: “We had a meeting in Sweden recently discussing about it. Of course I put Glasgow on the map.
“I know the Facenna family owners very well. I know the possibility and the potential they have to make it happen.
“This is why I said we should think about Glasgow. I don’t care when people say you can’t have two SGPs in one country.
“That’s nonsense, Glasgow is in Scotland and Manchester in England.
“I have already promised to Peter (Facenna) that we will go there next year with another big meeting.
“But in the future I would have happy for them to have a GP.
“The Glasgow track is very demanding and technical. But at GP level, it’s a track that would make a GP very interesting.”
