GLASGOW have tonight been awarded four league points after the abandonment of their meeting at Redcar on Thursday.
The Tigers had raced into a 32-24 lead on Teeside before a crash, fence repairs and an injured rider saw the match delayed for an hour.
It was called off before heat 10 had been staged after running over the 10pm curfew, meaning the result didn’t stand.
But the Speedway Control Bureau co-ordinator Neil Vatcher tonight declared the result, ruling that the Bears wouldn’t have closed the gap had heat 10 been run.
It means Glasgow move onto 30 points in the SGB Championship – just two off Edinburgh with two meetings in hand.
A statement from the SCB said: “The basis of this decision is as per Speedway Regulation 15.12, where in exceptional circumstances where the result is mathematically sure, following referral to the SCB, the meeting may be awarded.
“With Glasgow eight points in front and with heat 10 only having the two Glasgow riders competing, due to the exclusion of the two Redcar riders, Redcar would have been unable to have closed the eight-point gap at the conclusion of heat 10, even if the two Glasgow riders had not finished the race.
“With the unfortunate time delay due to extensive damaged to the Redcar safety fence, and the unavailability of the Redcar paramedic as he was attending to the injured Redcar rider Coty Garcia, this fixture was abandoned at the curfew time of 10pm.”
