LEON FLINT admitted he had been outgunned for the British Under-21 Championship by the “perfect race”.
The Berwick-born star was pipped to the title by Poole’s rising star hot prospect Sam Hagon at Ashfield Stadium on Sunday.
Flint had top scored in the qualifying heats with 14 points but Hagon’s sharp start in the Grand Final proved critical.
He said: “That’s racing. I’m not going to be too disappointed with myself.
“Sam just produced the perfect race in the final and done me really.
“Maybe looking back now that choosing gate one wasn’t the best idea. I was just aiming on myself making a start.
“Sam just made a great start, got to the outside line on he third bend and checked out.
“Sam is having a really good season as is Ashton (Boughen) and a lot of the other lads.
“I’m trying to take that pressure away from myself. I’m just back enjoying riding my bike, having fun.
“Obviously I’m not happy to come second. Every time I hit the track I’m going for three points.
“Last year I don’t even think I made the semis. But going in as the favourite into the final, I must be doing something right.
“Now I just need to focus on the SGP2 qualifier and get the job done there next weekend in France.”
Flint is next in action for the Allied Vehicles Tigers on June 21 at Ashfield against Berwick Bandits in the Cab Direct Championship.
The next event at Ashfield is the British Youth Championship on June 16 at 2pm.
