EDINBURGH emerged as the Masters of Ashfield as they got revenge on Glasgow in the second Scottish derby of the weekend – led by their talismanic No 1.
Sam Masters raced to 14 points as the Monarchs ran out 46-44 winners – to avenge their defeat by the same margin from Friday night.
The furthest either side got in front was four points – which was Glasgow’s lead after six heats – but the visitors levelled things up in the following race.
Incredibly, the next seven heats were shared, meaning a last-race decider – with the Monarchs pair just getting the edge over the Tigers.
Glasgow captain Craig Cook admitted the absence of the injured Ulrich Ostergaard was a big factor.
He said: “On a normal night with Ulrich I think the result would’ve been different.
“Obviously we wanted to win the three points, but we’re still at the top of the table. It’s swings and roundabouts and we’ve got to take it on the chin.
“The crowd have seen some great racing today, the best racing all season, so thanks to all the track guys and everyone who’s put the time in to do the track today.
“That makes the loss a little bit easier, the fact that the fans have seen some decent racing, because that’s what speedway is about at the end of the day.
“It’s just a minor speed bump on the road to success.”
The three points for Edinburgh move them into second in the SGB Championship, five points behind Glasgow but with two meetings in hand.
Next up for the Tigers is a double-header against Berwick next weekend in the KO Cup.
