Duelling with the Devils

This Sunday is Premier League match day 24 for the Western Commercial Tigers as we round off what has been an exceptionally tough league season.

Making their second attempt to visit Ashfield this year are the Plymouth Devils who themselves have had a mixed season having had enforced rider changes several times over this year.

The Devils management have stated this week that they are targeting their trip to Glasgow for some vital away points, before heading on to Newcastle on Monday.

Plymouth track a very interesting side which has a blend of youth, experience and world class raw talent and one which contains several riders already with Ashfield experience this season.

Pick of the bunch for Plymouth are their young Danish duo of Mikkel Bech and Rasmus Jensen both of whom have made an impression on the world stage, with Bech in particular having starred as part of his nations World Cup winning team in 2012.

Having guested for the Tigers just a few weeks ago, veteran Aussie Mark Lemon returns to Ashfield on Sunday as skipper of the visitors.

For the home side, we welcome back Josh Grajczonek to lead the side as he did so spectacularly against Edinburgh last Sunday.

Tigers will also welcome back Anders Thomsen who has fully recovered from his spill a fortnight ago, he is certain to be ultra keen to compete against his fellow countryman and also to have his best home performance yet since joining the club.

With Sunday being their final scheduled British club commitments of 2013, the meeting is likely to be the final home outings this season for either of Dakota North (who will represent the club in next weekend’s PLRC at Sheffield) and Joey Ringwood. Both riders have been in excellent form in recent weeks and will wish to sign-off with winning performances against the Devils.

Sunday will also notably mark the occasion, after a long and distinguished career, of being James Grieves’ last ever league meeting, and will be his final opportunity to further cement his position as the clubs all time second highest points scorer.

Full declared line-ups for Sunday are:

Glasgow Josh Grajczonek (G), Henning Bager, Anders Thomsen, James Grieves (C), Dakota North, Joe Jacobs, Joey Ringwood

Plymouth Mikkel Bech, Todd Kurtz, Rasmus Jensen, Michael Palm Toft, Mark Lemon (C), Jake Anderson, Ashley Morris (G)

We are definitely now down to the final handful of Tigers fixtures for this season. We continue to work on plans for at least 2 further meetings following our Plymouth league clash, however are unable to yet announce any details until into next week at the earliest.

A reminder that the Tigers Merchandise stand is currently selling a range of products at reduced prices – up to 60% savings are available on all items.

There is limited stock of Tigers jackets, holdall bags, scarves, polo shirts, t-shirts, baseball caps, beanies, mugs and 2014 calendars – first come, first served to pick up a bargain!

We are also still keen to be contacted by anyone who would like to discuss, pre book or introduce us to businesses interested in advertising on one/more of the air fence panels which will require to be in situ at Ashfield in 2014 – remember too that these advertising packages are valid for seasons 2014 & 2015 and therefore offer tremendous value for money. Please speak with any of the management team on race day, else in the first instance email the club at info@glasgowtigers.co

We will keep an eye on the weather forecast over the weekend and plan to issue a further Red Alert (as well as reflect the meeting status on our website homepage) on Sunday morning.
