DANYON Hume insists Glasgow can win the SGB Championship Pairs – despite going into the meeting missing their top man.
Craig Cook is being forced to sit out Friday’s event at Oxford after a crash at Edinburgh a fortnight ago.
As a result, Hume – who has been one of the Tigers’ success stories this season – will join Benjamin Basso as they aim to emulate the success of Cook and Rasmus Jensen three years ago.
Hume said: “I’m really looking forward to the pairs at Oxford.
“Ben Basso and I are really good friends on and off the track so it’s going to be pretty cool to be riding with him as a pair – we do ride well together.
“I believe we have just as much chance to win as anyone else does. I’m certainly looking forward to it and I know Basso is too.”
Glasgow have been drawn in Group A alongside rivals Edinburgh (Kye Thomson, Josh Pickering), Leicester (Nick Morris, Richie Worrall), Scunthorpe (Ryan Douglas, Simon Lambert) and Birmingham (Justin Sedgmen, James Pearson).
Group B features Poole (Steve Worrall, Danny King), Plymouth (Ben Morley, Harry McGurk), Berwick (Chris Harris, Jye Etheridge), Oxford (Scott Nicholls, Aaron Summers) and Redcar (Charles Wright, Lewis Kerr).
Hume says he is “really happy” with how his 2022 campaign is progressing.
He added: “I’m keeping busy with the two leagues but I feel it’s doing me good with lots of bike time and I’m enjoying myself.
“If we can all click as a team, we are the strongest team in the league. Hopefully the time the play-offs comes round we will have Ulrich [Ostergaard] and Cookie back and get the job done.”
