TEAM boss Cami Brown vowed that “speedway was the winner” after a dramatic Super Heat end to the title race.
The Allied Vehicles Tigers beat Poole 51-39 in the Cab Direct Championship Grand Final in front of a huge crowd at Ashfield.
It meant they tied on aggregate 90-90 and it became the first title to be decided by a sudden death Super Heat.
Poole pair Zach Cook and Richard Lawson defeated Glasgow’s Chris Harris and Kyle Howarth to clinch the league title for the Pirates in the most dramatic fashion.
Brown said: “Obviously I’m gutted, the boys gave it everything and nearly snatched it at the end.
“Congratulations to Poole, they just made the start when it really mattered.
“But the most important thing is that speedway was the winner tonight.
“This meeting had everything. Unbelievable racing, drama, a nail-biting decider and in front of a huge crowd.
“This is how good this sport can be. On a brilliant and fair racetrack speedway can just be absolutely sensational entertainment.
“I have to give a huge amount of praise to both teams, every rider gave it everything.
“I can’t fault any of our boys. They rode their hearts out and nearly pulled it off.
“It was such a great performance to beat Poole by 12 points, equalling their heaviest defeat of the season.
“But obviously it’s so frustrating to miss out and get so close. But I can’t complain because the boys did everything they could.
“Lastly I have to say a massive thank you to the fans for making it such a noisy and wonderful occasion. Our supporters have been outstanding all season.”
