British Championship Semi-Final Announcement

Further to our exciting announcement last weekend, we’re now in a position to inform you that we’ve confirmed the date for the British Championship Semi-final. The event will now take place on Sunday 15th May at 3.00pm.

Due to the Polish GP taking place on Saturday 14th May, there are no Polish league fixtures on the 15th. This means that any British stars who usually ride in Poland on a Sunday will be free to take their place in the line-up at the Peugeot Ashfield Stadium should they be drawn to race at Glasgow.

Tigers co-promoter Alan Dick is understandably delighted that such a prestigious event will be taking place north of the border, giving speedway fans across Scotland the opportunity to see some of the UK’s top stars in action.

Dick commented: “It’s absolutely fantastic that Glasgow has been chosen to host this event and it’s a real testament to how far we’ve come over the last 12 months. We now have one of the best facilities in British speedway and I very much hope that fans from all over the country will travel to watch the semi-final where the line-up will undoubtedly include some of the best talent the UK has to offer. It will be a tremendous occasion and hopefully the first of many major events hosted at the Peugeot Ashfield Stadium.”

The very best of British will be on the championship trail once again including GP star Chris Harris, seven times British Champion Scott Nicholls and 2015 runner-up Craig Cook, along with 2016 Tigers Richard Lawson, Ben Barker and Richie Worrall.

The format of the meeting will be 20 heats with the top finishing riders progressing to the British Championship Final, which will be held at the new National Speedway Stadium later in the season. In the coming weeks we will provide further details of the line-up for the Ashfield semi-final.

Dick added: “Finally we would like to give special thanks to the management team at Scunthorpe, who are hosting the other semi-final, for being so accommodating.  We would also like to thank Brian Havelock at Redcar for agreeing to the rescheduling of our KO Cup tie.”

The Bears will now visit the Peugeot Ashfield Stadium on Sunday 22nd May.
