TEAM boss Cami Brown admits his side need to improve despite qualifying for the BSN Series semi-finals.
The Allied Vehicles Tigers ground out a tough 48-42 win over Berwick at Ashfield on Sunday.
It meant that the club are into the last four of the BSN but Brown knows that his team continue to look vulnerable with their fourth last heat decider in five meetings.
He said: “We’ve qualified for the semi-finals now. But we still have a lot of work to do. There’s no doubt we need to improve over the coming weeks.
“It was a gutsy performance. I expected it to be that sort of meeting.
“I never thought Berwick were out of it even when we went eight points up. They soon pegged us back to just two points. It was never over until the final chequered flag.
“Obviously Dan (Thompson), Chris (Harris) and Leon (Flint) were excellent.
“I’ve got to give a special mention to Kyle (Howarth). He battled for seven points and he was really ill.
“It’s madness when you can’t get a doctor’s line to miss the meeting when you are genuinely ill. He battled hard and I’ve got to give lots of praise to him.
“We worked very hard to help the younger lads get their set-ups right. Ashton (Boughen) had a really poor night. We’ve been trying everything to help him get his confidence back.
“We will keep plugging away to do all we can for him.”
Brown warned that the team will need to up their game immediately against Edinburgh.
He added: “We need to ride better on Friday. If we ride like that again, we won’t win. I said that to the boys after the meeting. We have to improve.
“The younger lads will need to chip in with more or we will be in trouble against Edinburgh.
“But overall I’m delighted with the effort, they all rode their hearts out.
“The racing was outstanding again. To be honest, the boys would like more grip on the track. I think weather conditions have hampered that.”
