Like you, we too were bitterly disappointed with Sunday’s call off.
Having taken a decision before 9am to run, based upon a localised meteorological consultation which actually did prove to be pretty accurate when all other forecasts suggested an otherwise incessant 100% chance of rainfall throughout the day, we were then committed to stage the meeting. There were several considerations in our minds on Sunday, rider safety and remaining fixture date availability at the forefront.
In the end, having had to await the rain to cease at around 12:30, and despite the resulting sunshine we didn’t quite have enough time to sufficiently aerate the track to a sufficient racing standard.
We do wish to sincerely apologise to any supporters who, based on our genuine and well intentioned intent, had a wasted journey on Sunday. Please be assured that, when the weather is being/has been less than kind to us, we always try to balance the interests of the club, riders and supporters in determining whether to run or not.
We can now advise that we have arranged to try again to race Plymouth, and round off our league campaign, on Sunday 29th September. Both Joey & Dakota will remain in the country to ride for the Tigers in this fixture.
Remember please, there is no Ashfield speedway action this weekend however we wish Dakota North lots of luck when he represents the club in Sunday’s PLRC at Sheffield – safe journey to anyone making the trip to South Yorkshire to cheer on Dak. We also send Joe Jacobs our very best wishes as he lines-up in Saturday night’s NLRC at Rye House.
Meantime, we will host our latest GP night in the stadium bar this Saturday night, doors open at 5pm with admission of just £3 for under 16s and OAP’s, and just £5 for adults, which then includes your choice of 2 curries, a mix of sandwiches AND a drink (soft or alcoholic).
