GLASGOW’S Chris Harris delivered an opening home race maximum win…seconds after jumping out of his van!
The Allied Vehicles Tigers No.1 was caught in a lengthy traffic jam on the M6 and arrived at the stadium with the two minute warning on for the start of Heat 1.
Remarkably he changed into his racesuit in the van, leapt out and then scored a 5-1 win with team partner James Pearson.
Harris missed the start before passing both Josh Pickering and Lasse Fredriksen.
Glasgow stormed into an early 21-15 lead over Edinburgh but the meeting was then abandoned due to heavy rain.
Team boss Cami Brown said: “It was the most sensational start to our season at Ashfield.
“Only Chris could do that sort of thing. He was on a borrowed bike and then came from last to second to win the race with James.
“He crossed the finishing line. Yet literally two minutes earlier he wasn’t even in the stadium!
“We made a brilliant start and led by 10 points but Edinburgh came back at us. It was shaping up to be a huge meeting. But the rain just poured down. It was such a shame.
“I was really impressed by James and Ace Pijper. The youngsters really got stuck in and Steve Worrall was super-classy. It’s a real blow the rain ruined it.”
