GREAT Britain sealed their second victory over Poland in four days as they won a rain-curtailed test match at Glasgow’s Ashfield Stadium.
The hosts ran out 36-35 winners over their illustrious visitors, who were led by stars including Bartosz Zmarzlik and Maciej Janowski.
Home heroes including Chris Harris, Dan Bewley and Robert Lambert sealed early heat wins as their home track knowledge paid dividends in the opening stages of the meeting.
However the visitors got back into it courtesy of a 5-0 when Great Britain had two fallers in successive laps to bring the meeting closer.
A heat 10 5-1 for the Poles then drew them to within a point as they grew further into the meeting, though a few were battered and bruised after a couple of nasty crashes.
A collision involving all four riders in heat 13 then brought the meeting to a halt as rain began to fall and the decision was made to call the meeting at that stage with the result standing.
It meant GB followed up their Speedway of Nations final win over Poland with a full test match victory over the same nation, though the hosts undoubtedly benefitted from having spent more time on the Glasgow circuit than their Polish counterparts – all but one of whom were making their Ashfield debuts.
