The “Western Commercial” Tigers are looking upon Sunday’s fixture against the Sheffield Tigers as something of a grudge fixture, stemming back to the pivotal meeting in the league last season, as Glasgow strode towards the title. This year the Glagow version of the Tigers have not been as powerful as yet but Co-Promoter Alan Dick is always keen to put one over on the Yorkshire outfit.
“I was very angry with some of the comments emanating from Owlerton last season. Neil Machin is a very experienced Promoter but some of the things that he was coming out with last season were completely out of order. He was making accusations that he was unable to substantiate and that was very disappointing. It made it all the sweeter when we beat them in the latter stages of the season and believe you me, I will be doubly keen to get one over on them again.
Our team have been very inconstent so far this season with one excellent performance allied to a couple of frustrating ones so this is their chance to get the season up and running. I think it is fair to say that we have no chance of qualifying from our group but we want to be in a much better position for the league commencing in a fortnight. We will expect our reserves to get amongst the points this time out, they have been a little frustrating so far, but this is the type of meeting that I think will suit them.
It does look as though we will be back to full strength as Jayden Omalley is set to take to the track again while a rest will have done Josh Grajczonek the world of good. We need a full strength side to give us the confidence as we prepare for the league, and a full strength side will help enormously.
Sheffield are a much changed side this year having lost all three of their heat leaders. They look a more balaced side but not one that should be beating us on our own patch so we will see how it goes once racing commences.”
