TEAM boss Cami Brown admitted his side “got out of jail” against Edinburgh.
The Allied Vehicles Tigers snatched a last gasp 45-45 draw in a typically fierce Cab Direct Championship clash at Ashfield on Friday night.
Brown’s side went into the derby rocked by No.1 Kyle Howarth quitting just three days earlier but produced a fighting display in the latter stages to stay in the play-off hunt.
The Tigers were six down with two races to go but a 5-1 from Kevin Juhl Pedersen and Freddy Hodder, with the ride of the night, set up a last heat decider.
Chris Harris then completed his maximum and Leon Flint did well to contain Kye Thomson at the back to snatch the draw.
He said: “We definitely got out of jail in the last two races. Fair play to the boys for digging that result out.
“The way it had gone in the second half of the meeting, it actually feels like a win.
“It wasn’t a great performance. We had too many riders not at the races.
“We have also been cursed by guest choices covering for Kyle Howarth recently. Jonas Jeppesen was poor from start to finish.
“It’s hard for any team to have a No.1 being so weak. We were up against it all night.
“But Chris has been back to his best recently, Leon was excellent and Kevin was outstanding all night. Freddy got going just when we needed it in Heat 14, that was the race of the night to keep us in the meeting.
“It’s very tight at the top of the league for the top four places.
“We know this is the fixture our fans want to win the most. But this had a lot more riding on it.
“It was such a big blow to lose Kyle on Tuesday. It was always going to be a difficult task to get a result over Edinburgh who have been so good at Ashfield.
“We still have to replace Kyle as soon as possible. That will eliminate the gamble of guests which just hasn’t worked in recent weeks.”
