GLASGOW boss Cami Brown says the Tigers have given themselves a “fighting chance” of being crowned league champions after taking a 10-point lead from the first leg of the Championship play-off final.
The Ashfield side edged out Poole 50-40 in front of a bumper crowd on Tuesday night to ensure they have something to defend in Dorset on Thursday.
Each side dropped points at various points of the match as falls and tapes offences made for a tense affair – with Glasgow just keeping their noses in front.
But they know they must improve on their 56-34 defeat at Poole earlier in the season if they are to win their first league trophy for a decade.
Brown said: “First and foremost it’s a win and that’s difficult against Poole. That’s what we started out to get, we’ve given ourselves something to defend down at Poole and given ourselves a chance.
“I thought the boys all tried hard – sometimes maybe tried too hard, but I can’t fault them for that, that’s what we asked them to do.
“Ten points is a good lead, we’ve got a fighting chance, I’ve spoken to all the boys and they’re up for the challenge so we’re not giving in. We’re in the driving seat but it’s only half time.
“One massive push on Thursday and perhaps we can get that elusive championship. It would certainly make me the happiest man alive and it would be great for the club.”
Craig Cook, who top scored for Glasgow with 11+1, says the Tigers head south in a good frame of mind.
He said: “We’re still in it – 15 races to go. We know the set-up, we know what we did last time and what we did wrong last time.
“We’re going there with positive vibes, we’re looking forward to Thursday and hopefully we can bring the trophy back to Scotland.”
Thursday’s second leg at the Poole Stadium starts at 7.30pm.
