With the tie all but over after the first leg the night before, Glasgow went into this match looking to at least make the aggregate score respectable. Tigers were at full strength whilst Rye House had James Sergeant in for Simon Lambert with R/R for Jason Bunyan.
Glasgow 52: Wright 11(5), Grieves 10+2(5), Screen 9+1(4), Ringwood 7+1(4), Horwood 7(4), Bager 6+2(4), Jacobs 2+2(4)
Rye House 38: Garrity 10(5), Nelson 10(6), Allen 8(4), Mellgren 4+1(5), Sarjeant 4(5), Lykke 2+1(5)
Heat 1 saw Joe Screen just edge out Oliver Allen on the first corner with Joey Ringwood ahead of Kasper Lykke. That’s the way it finished. 4-2
Heat 2: It looked like Harley Horwood had made a dream debut when he lead into the first bend but found James Sarjeant riding round him and despite putting him under some pressure the Rocket held on to win. Lykke finished third in front of Joe J. 6-6
Heat 3 and the fast starting Wright and Bager looked set for a 5-1 but Garrity had been pressing hard and passed Henning on the inside on the penultimate bend of the race to reduce the heat to a 4-2. 10-8
Heat 4 and a good gate from James G saw him comfortably beat Nelson who whilst never looked like being passed, was kept honest by Joe J who seemed to gain ground at the end of every lap. Lykke was a disappointing last again. 13-11
Heat 5: Ollie Allen just beat James W to the first corner and picked up an easy win, Henning struggled a bit in third, Lykke although close at times was never going to get by him and the heat was shared. By this stage Tigers were only 17-13 up and the Rockets were halfway to the 27 they needed.
Heat 6 and another great start by Joe S saw him move the Rockets wide on the first bend allowing Joey to cut back and pass both of them coming out of the second. Nelson gave chase but Joey hung on for Tigers first 5-1. 22-14
Heat 7. James G was first away again with Garrity and Mellgren behind him. That’s the way it stayed although Garrity was all over James throughout the race with Mellgren not far behind them. 25-17
Heat 8 Garrity was out for R/R and he lead the race. Behind him Joey and Joe where both making mistakes allowing Sarjeant to make a challenge. He tried the outside line but came off on the apex of the third and fourth bend with his bike ending up on the centre green. After a short delay he walked off. Surprisingly the race was re-run and it looked like Glasgow would take advantage. Joey made a great start but the faster moving Garrity was not to be denied his win and forced his way past him on the second bend on the third lap. 28-20
Rye House could not now be caught as long as they had a finisher in the remaining heats.
Heat 9. After a delay to let rain pass, it was James W and Henning who took an easy 5-1 over Nelson and Lykke. 33-21
Heat 10. Garrity was out again and he and the two Tigers seemed to reach the first bend at the same time, with Joe S getting shunted towards the fence. This allowed Mellgren into third but Joe passed him on the inside of the fourth bend. He was content to sit behind Joey for rest of the race for the 3-3. 36-24
Heat 11 and Allen made the start but he fell on the third bend with the following riders doing well to avoid him, he couldn’t clear the track and the race was stopped.
The re-run saw James G lead again but a superb move around the outside, up against the fence on the first and second bends of the second lap, saw Nelson lead down the back straight. James tried to come back around the outside of the fourth but couldn’t manage it. He later slowed which allowed Harley to pass him. 39-27
Heat 12. James W was well away again with Mellgren, Jacobs and Lykke behind him in that order. Joe J went a little too wide on the fourth bend allowing Lykke to pass him, which is how it finished. 42-30
Heat 13: Allen made the best start with Joe S behind him. James G squeezed Nelson out on the second bend and didn’t allow him to try the same move as heat 11, riding wide on the second bend of every lap. 45-33
Heat 14: A determined Harley gated and led into the first bend, behind him, Henning passed Garrity on the second bend and passed Sarjeant coming off the fourth of the 1st lap for the 5-1. A delighted Harley was congratulated at the end of the race by the rest of the Tigers team as he recorded his first victory for the stripes. 50-34
Heat 15: Both Nelson and Mellgren made the start as James W lifted. James G managed to get between them to take second down the back straight and that’s how it finished. 52-38
Both sides will be happy with this result. Glasgow in comfortably winning the meeting and building confidence ahead of next weeks league opener. Rye House in winning the tie, although Glasgow will be ruing that first leg which could’ve made the aggregate score interesting.
A much better home performance by the whole team with everyone paid for a win with the exception of Joe J. Harley with his first race win, while Joey had a bit more fortune than the Berwick match.
For the visitors Garrity was the most exciting rider on show although Nelson had his moments also.
