GLASGOW’S Dan Thompson has been awarded a permanent wild card place in the prestigious SGP2 series.
The Allied Vehicles Tigers’ young star was given a spot after he missed out on the qualifier due to a broken scaphoid injury.
Thompson, 21, is over-the-moon with the news and also revealed he is hoping to be back in action within a fortnight.
He said: “I’m delighted to have received a wild card for the SGP2 series.
“It was one of my aims for this year to compete in the series, but unfortunately, I had to withdraw from the qualifier due to my injury a week prior to the meeting.
“However, I’m massively grateful for this opportunity.
“Recovery from my injury is going well – I’m having scans later this week.
“I have been having additional treatment to speed things up, so all being well I should be back in the next two weeks.
Tigers boss Cami Brown is delighted that Thompson has got one last shot at Under-21 World Championship glory.
He said: “Dan has been sensational so far this season and the crash couldn’t have come at a worst time.
“It probably denied Dan the British Under-21 title and his place in the SGP2 series.
“But thankfully the FIM have given him a spot as it’s his last year to go for a medal.
“It’s also fabulous news that he is getting closer to recovery. We only want him back when he’s ready. But he’s been sorely missed that’s for sure.”
