Glasgow Speedway bosses have turned back the clock to former glories by recruiting Dutch racer Theo Pijper as a Tiger for the 2014 season.
Pijper, who helped the Tigers to a league championship win in 2011, was released by parent club Edinburgh over the weekend which sparked a chase for his signature.
Theo, who had guested for the Tigers on a couple of occasions last season, is one of the most popular visiting riders to Ashfield and is certain to strengthen the Tigers attack in the new season.
Coming in to the Glasgow line-up on a 7.70 average, East of Scotland based Pijper becomes the third signature on a Tigers 2014 contract and joins Rusty Harrison (6.63) and Anders Thomsen (4.11).
Speaking about the club’s latest capture co-promoter Colin Hamilton was clearly delighted:
“Theo is a rider we have admired for a while now, he’s very professional and always rides Ashfield very well indeed as his league winning season showed.
It was a pleasant surprise to us that Edinburgh opted to go without him for what is his testimonial year, and we firmly believe that Glasgow will benefit immensely from having Theo back in our side of the pits next season.”
