PAUL Starke has a team medal haul bigger than any other rider in Britain.
But the Englishman is greedy for more – and wants to boost his credentials further by winning a speedway grand slam with Glasgow.
The 27-year-old has won a staggering 19 team titles in just 11 seasons, including four leagues and five KO Cups.
Only new team-mate Chris Harris, and 2012 World Champion Chris Holder, come close to his record with 16 club honours each.
Starke, who last failed to collect a medal in 2012, makes his Tigers debut in the Scottish Cup this Friday.
And if he tastes victory there, it’ll be the first of five trophies he could win with his new club this season.
The former Poole Pirates star said: “Almost every year I’ve won something with the team I was racing for – and I’ve won all three leagues in British speedway.
“Every year I want to win something – and this year I want to win everything. With Glasgow and the team we’ve got, there’s no reason why I can’t put more trophies on my resume.
“I nearly did it all with Somerset in 2014, but we lost out to Edinburgh in the league. I also did the treble with Cradley in the National League.
“I’ve always won trophies with clubs that I’ve been with, and I want to carry that forward this year.
“Maybe I can be a good omen for Glasgow.”
Starke is relishing his first Scottish derby and believes the widened Ashfield track will help the Tigers in their bid to take the bragging rights.
“It’s always heated in the football and the speedway is exactly the same,” he said.
“Rivalry is what you need, and it’ll be good to be on the winning side of it – and I’m sure we will be.
“We’ve got a really solid team, and so long as we can get to grips with the track straight away, I think it’ll be really good.
“In fact with the riders we’ve got and the track changes, it’s probably going to suit the majority of us – because we are all racers. Give us enough room and we’ll go and race, and I think that’s exactly what they’ve tried to achieve with the track.”
