RASMUS JENSEN admits he is not guaranteed success despite returning to Glasgow for a vital Grand Prix qualifier.
The dashing Dane was one of the most exciting stars to race for the Allied Vehicles Tigers during their 2019 Championship campaign.
Now Jensen, 27, returns for the first time on Saturday night bidding to join the world’s elite of the Grand Prix.
He said: “Of course this is where I want to be. Last year we didn’t get to do the Danish qualifier and Glasgow was cancelled as well which was a bummer. But now we just have to focus on qualifying this year.
“I’m not sure many of the riders wanted to be in Glasgow because of the hassle getting into the UK right now because of Covid-19 but I’m definitely happy I got Glasgow.
“The choice I had was between Terenzano in Italy and Glasgow and I’ve never been to Terenzano before so it was pretty obviously the choice!
“It’s not just because I rode for Glasgow for a season I am guaranteed a top four spot, no chance. I’ve done a fair few laps around there though.
“I’m always hoping for a bit more right now. So far it’s not so shabby what I’m doing at the moment. Hopefully I can go even better in the second part of the season.”
Jensen will certainly start as one of the favourites for Saturday night’s mouthwatering GP qualifier. He will also be possibly the most popular rider on display with the limited number of home fans.
The Holsted Tigers and Gdansk star still has a huge following at Ashfield after his heroics for the club during that epic 2019 season. It ended in tears with a narrow defeat in the Championship final.
But he did land silverware with a quite incredible last bend win in the Pairs over Leicester. He also delivered a massive maximum in the Play-Off final away leg.
He added: “I’m very happy to be coming back to Glasgow. I felt so welcome there, it’s such a great club to be a part of. It’s just a shame that in 2020 I had originally made plans to only race in the Premiership, before the pandemic.
“It’s sad I can’t ride for Glasgow because it’s a brilliant place to be. It’s also sad that not many fans are allowed in, so I can’t see everyone. It will be good to see a few familiar faces and good friends.”
