ULRICH Ostergaard rolled back the years to inspire another Glasgow home win and help keep them top of the SGB Championship.
The 40-year-old was beaten just once as he produced a stunning display of racing in the 55-35 win over Newcastle at Ashfield – including a brilliant last-bend pass round the outside of Ben Barker.
Justin Sedgmen also had a major role to play following his move to reserve, bagging 12+1 points.
The win keeps the Tigers three clear at the summit, but Scunthorpe and Edinburgh are maintaining their pressure after victories in their respective meetings tonight.
Ostergaard said: “It gives you some confidence when you start the season well – you believe yourself and believe your bikes. It’s so far so good – everything has been working perfectly for me.
“I ride for two really good teams in the UK and it makes me hungry. We’re top of the table and we want to stay there.
“I’m just trying to go out there and enjoy my racing, and score as many points as I can for the team, and so far it’s been working alright.
“It’s a really good bunch of lads here and the team spirit is key – we have fun on and off the track.”
Manager Cami Brown said: “I think that Newcastle gave us a much harder match than many people expected.
“There’s no such thing as an easy match in speedway any more and we’ve always got to remember that.
“The racing has been very good. Ulrich has been the star man, but a special mention for Justin – I think he’s been excellent tonight. In the early part of the meeting he really kept us punching forward and got the momentum going.”
The Tigers now have a week off before away trips to Plymouth and Edinburgh.
