NO SPEEDWAY at Ashfield till July 28, but there is no rest for the wicked as the Tigers embark on four away fixtures in the next fortnight.
The team are on a run of defeats and team manager Sean Courtney admits things must get better.
The task is made tougher as the men in red and white travel to three of the league’s play-off contenders in the coming days.
First up is the short journey along the M8 to Edinburgh tonight (Friday), to face a side who have twice left Ashfield this season with the spoils.
Sunday’s match at Ashfield against the Monarchs certainly saw plenty of fighting spirit from our Tigers side who, with a bit more luck, might have taken something from the meeting. There was certainly lots of cause for encouragement.
That said, tonight’s match will be among the biggest challenges yet faced by our men, with a Team GB World Cup star in Craig Cook among the riders we will have to overcome if we wish to gain anything.
But 2013 has been a season of surprises, and our two newest team members – Jonas Raun and Andre Compton – have yet to see the Armadale shale this season. Could they spring a surprise on their return? We certainly know that Andre is capable, being a former Scottish Open winner in West Lothian. Can Henning Bager continue his love affair with the smaller, tighter tracks with another top performance? Can James Grieves get the better of Craig Cook for the second time in a week? Will Joey Ringwood provide more thrills as he returns to the scene of his first-ever British speedway win over Claus Vissing?
For those travelling east, there is plenty to keep interest up.
As ever, there will be plenty of noisy fans in red and white scarves on the banks at Armadale (7.30pm start) on what will be another red-hot derby in red-hot conditions.
It is a key period in the Tigers’ season, so get along, get behind the boys, and show why the Glasgow fans are the best in the country – even when the chips are down.
Teams for tonight:
Edinburgh – 1 Craig Cook, 2 Derek Sneddon, 3 Theo Pijper, 4 Jozsef Tabaka, 5 Claus Vissing, 6 Mitchell Davey, 7 Max Fricke.
Glasgow – 1 Joe Screen, 2 Jonas Raun, 3 Henning Bager, 4 Andre Compton, 5 James Grieves, 6 Joey Ringwood, 7 Joe Jacobs.
