At last! The culmination of several weeks perseverance and effort has resulted in Glasgow Speedway being able to announce the arrival of two new riders to a revamped side, both will come in to the team with immediate effect.
As had first been indicated on Sunday, the club has moved to introduce Andre Compton to the side following several conversations before and during the Red Revolution Open meeting.
Andre’s level of performance was the determining factor and we are delighted to advise that we now have Management Committee approval for him to join the club, initially on a 28 day contract, as agreed to by his parent club Sheffield. Having been out of the saddle for the best part of 3 years, Andre’s starting average has been re-assessed at 5.97.
The second rider, now a Glasgow Tiger, has been a familiar face at Ashfield in recent weeks.
British speedway returnee Dane, Jonas Raun, who also impressed during last Sunday’s individual meeting, has also received Management Committee approval having not raced competitively in Britain since 2007/2008 when he featured for Newcastle and Belle Vue. Jonas’ starting average has been re-assessed at 5.63.
So with both riders coming straight in to action this Sunday when Berwick Bandits visit on league duty, this also allows Tigers to re-shuffle and move Joey Ringwood – still on his season opening average of 5.00 – down to reserve berth for the first time this season.
Some better news on Joey in that he is due to have a practice this week to establish if he is quite ready to make a track return, so fingers crossed that we may be able to return to a full compliment of riders as soon as this Sunday.
So, all things being equal we could yet have our strongest line-up of the entire season at our disposal come Sunday which is probably just as well with some many Ashfield track experts in the Bandits team which will be led by Grand Prix and World Team Cup chasing Bandit Edward Kennett.
