Glasgow skipper Joe Screen has officially announced his retirement from the sport at the end of a glittering 24 year track career.
Whilst Joe had indicated mid-way through the current season that he would be bringing the curtain down on a glorious racing career which has seen him amongst the world’s very best racers, the end point has now been enforced since suffering a badly broken finger in a Heat 5 incident at Redcar last Thursday.
Whilst riders typically earmark a quick return to the saddle, the estimated 6 week lay-off has forced Joe to call time now, as he will begin to focus on the next chapter in his life outside of speedway.
In his sparkling career Joe has beaten the very best in the world, raced all over the speedway world and has earned legendary status amongst the speedway family internationally.
Glasgow Speedway are proud to have featured Joe Screen in our ranks since joining the club mid-way through the 2010 season, and our supporters, as well as those around the UK, have marvelled at his thrilling leg trailing style and points scoring whilst wearing the stripes.
We extend our sincere thanks and best wishes to Joe and wish him every success in the future, we hope he will be able to make a visit to Ashfield before the end of the season.
