GLASGOW’S Sam Jensen did a 44-hour, 4,000-mile round trip from Denmark to Ashfield Stadium for just 12 LAPS of practice!
But the lanky Allied Vehicles Tigers star reckons it was worth every second after missing out on action for 18 months.
Jensen, 24, was back on track along with team-mates Craig Cook, Ricky Wells, Justin Sedgmen and Jack Smith as they prepare for an opening home meeting against Kent just a fortnight away now.
The big Dane admitted: “It was a very long journey but I only originally came back to collect my bikes so I could work on them.
“But I couldn’t resist the opportunity to have a few laps while I was there. I did seven hours from Harwich to Glasgow and straight away went on the track!
“It was good to be with the new team-mates and to be finally back on the track. It seems like such a long time since October 2019 when I last did that.
“I have to say the track feels so smooth to ride. The track guys have done an amazing job. There is no bump going into the third turn so you can now just head straight for the banking with a consistent line.
“Also there is no bump going over the start line so it also means you have a consistent line and speed going into the first turn. I loved it and now I can’t wait to race competitively on it.
“It was also good to see the boss Gerry Facenna at the stadium. I think everyone thought it was so cool I wanted to ride the bike for such a short time!”
The Tigers have their first competitive meeting scheduled in just under a fortnight at Plymouth on May 18. That will mean being the first team to come up against exciting Gladiators duo Jason Crump and Bjarne Pedersen.
Then it’s Kent Kings back at Ashfield for the long-awaited return to action on May 21 and Jensen is clearly like a kid on Christmas Eve.
He added: “It feels so good to be saying I’m back to race in a league meeting in a couple of weeks. Everyone is really buzzing now at the club.
“I know that we will all be happy to be racing but we will want to get results as well. Racing is good but winning is even better!”
Glasgow No.1 and captain Cook posted a video on Facebook of him roaring round Ashfield, a sight that will have really had fans excited even further for the new season. Cook stated: “I’m back baby. It’s like I never left.”
