A freak foot injury sustained by James Grieves at Sheffield on Thursday means the “Western Commercial” Tigers may not be at full strength as the team look to make a bright opener in the defence of the Premier League, which they won in grand style last season. Grieves was racing at Sheffield when some unknown object came up from the track and went right through his boot and caused damage. Thankfully a break has been ruled out but there is still damage of some sort and it will be a late decision as to whether he rides on Sunday or not as the Leicester Lions come to town.
The Tigers would love nothing better than a victory in this opening league fixture but Co-Promoter Stewart Dickson knows that the Lions will be looking to get one over the Tigers in the battle of the big cats:
“I would have been more confident if the team were at full strength but we will keep our fingers crossed for James as he is such an important part of the team. It was so unfortunate what happened but that is the sport although the timing could certainly have been better. Our season is all about the league this year and I cannot emphasise enough to the team just how important a win will be in this opening meet. They know how important it is and I am still very confident that we can get it right and earn a place in the top six, after that then anything is possible.
I know that our team are nowhere near the level we want them to be at but we are working on a few things at the moment and we will see what happens. Leicester come to town on Sunday with a very strong top end and it will be good to see Kauko Nieminen back racing here again, he is still a very popular rider from his days as a Tiger. However we need eveyone to get points. Jayden is starting to show some flashes, while Mason has been a star, so we are in a decent position, especially if we can get the two reserves firing the way we know they can.
I hope that there is a big crowd out to watch us on Sunday, I know last week’s meeting was a little short on entertainment, but I see this one as having much more potential to entertain.”
TEAMS:
Glasgow – Joe Screen, Mason Campton, James Grieves, Jayden Omalley, Josh Grajczonek, Jade Mudgway, Robert Ksiezak
Leicester – Magnus Karlsson, Simon Lambert, Kauko Nieminen, Jari Makinen, Lasse Bjerre, Jan Graversen, Simon Neilsen.
Next weeks action sees the Tigers travel to Scunthorpe on Friday in the final League Cup clash. At present there is no meeting scheduled for Sunday 13th May but more details will be given on Sunday.
