For once the rain relented and Tigers got their first Sunday victory since beating Edinburgh on the 19th April as they saw off, in effect, a one man Diamonds side in another entertaining match.
James Sarjeant was an unlikely heat 1 winner replacing the timed out Nick Morris as he just held off Ritchie Worrall. He was even better in heat 2, passing Simon Nielsen on the third lap with Victor Palovaara coming from a long way back to do likewise on the last bend.
Tigers extended their lead with a 4-2 in heat 4, which looked briefly like another 5-1 until Ludvig Lindgren passed Sarjeant and a 5-1 in heat 5 . Lewis Rose took a surprise win in heat 6 over the hard pressing Morris but successive home 4-2s took the Tigers 30-18 ahead. Newcastle waited until heat 10 to use their TR and they took advantage with a 7-2 through Steve Worrall after Morris was excluded after falling trying to pass him. That was as close as the Diamonds got with an easy heat 13 maximum from Morris and Richard Lawson(who blew an engine on the run in) and a 4-2 in heat 14 putting Glasgow 50-37 up. Newcastle getting a consolation 4-2 in the final heat.
Glasgow looked solid again with Richard Lawson recording a maximum although Morris and Kozza Smith had days to forget, while James Sarjeant again impressed with his biggest score of the season
Newcastle relied on Steve Worrall’s quick gating, while Ludvig Lindgren rode better than his score suggested. Christian Henry disappointed on his Ashfield return, while Ritchie Worrall was poor.
