Tigers all but secured their place in the League Cup final after thrashing a disappointing Comets side who contrived to be even worse than their recent league appearance.
The track had been made tricky by pre meeting rain but was certainly raceable but it appeared only one side wanted to win as Tigers continually out gated or out manouvered their oppponents on the opening bends.
Danny Ayres had a good battle with Adam Roynon in heat 2 but came to grief on the third lap trying to dive up the inside. He was involved again in heat 4 driving up the inside of both Comets on the third bend although Claus Vissing had more speed and held second. By heat 7 these were the only points the home side had dropped!! By this stage Rasmus Jensen had barely completed a lap with two retirals including bizarely pulling wheelies at the back in heat 7.
The Comets finally made a start in heat 8 but Nike Lunna was all over Matt Williamson’s back wheel but due to the wet conditions(the rain had re-started) was finding it difficult to overtake. Williamson then lost control on the 3rd/4th bend of the third lap causing Lunna to fall and thereby stopping the race, which was awarded a 2-3. Ayres having retired early on.
Richard Lawson missed the start in heat 10 and was struggling to see at the back and the meeting looked in danger due to the weather. After a delay we re-started again and another three 4-2s followed, the highlight being a tremendous chase and pass by Aaron Summers over Ricky Wells in heat 13 using the inside line for almost the entire race.
After Matt Williamson had fallen off and stayed down in heat 14, Tigers took a 5-1 in the re-run before both Summers and Rene Bach both completed their maximums, Bach having to pass Wells in the last race, after Wells lost his goggles midway through.
It was hard to believe this was a semi final as Workington looked beaten before the meeting started, with Adam Roynon only finishing one race, while Rasmus Jensen only seemed interested if he gated.
For the home side there were 3 maximums, while Lunna and Garcia were only beaten once. It was all too easy but it does mean the Tigers can concentrate on the KOC next weekend as this tie has surely been put to bed.
