Glasgow Tigers 58 v 34 Berwick Bandits

Tigers ended a successful week by equalling their biggest win of the season against a poor Berwick side. Fresh from reaching their first final in four years and an away win at Rye House, Tigers saw off the early challenge of the Bandits to pull away in the second half of the meeting.
After losing a 4-2 in the opening race, Glasgow gradually eased to a 6 point lead by heat 4. Berwick stemmed the tide with three drawn heats and had the only unbeaten rider in guest Ricky Wells, riding much better than for Workington last week, going into heat 8.
It looked like the home side would take a 5-1 in that race but Richard Hall rode a good race to pass Ashley Morris on the last bend for the 4-2. They managed the 5-1 in the next heat through Aaron Summers and Richard Lawson, which meant the TR could be used in heat 10. The impressive Thomas Jorgensen was chosen but he couldn’t quite get the better of Josh Grajczonek and also had to fend off James Sarjeant behind him for the entire four laps in the best race of the day.
From then on it was going to be a case of how many. Ricky Wells’ maximum went in heat 11 after a fall, although he was third at the time anyway and another home 5-1. Mathias Thronblom surprisingly won heat 12 (he had previously fallen three times on the same spot on the second bend) despite Summers throwing everything at him but it was mere consolation for Berwick as Glasgow finished 14-4 to move into 4th spot in the league.
It wasn’t the most exciting of matches but Glasgow got revenge for their mauling at Berwick a few weeks ago, with everyone contributing. Tigers three heat leaders scoring an impressive 41 between them.
For the visitors, Wells and Jorgensen, early on, looked quick but fell away, while Thornblom showed great composure to hold off some hard challenges from Summers in the only race he completed!
Glasgow have another important week ahead and two wins would just about seal their top 6 play off spot.
