Glasgow took their 7th point in three meetings but it came at a high cost as Kozza Smith suffered a suspected broken thigh and hip in a heat 9 crash.
He collided with Ben Wilson on the third bend and hit the fence, unfortunately the following Richard Hall’s bike followed him in, after he had laid down to avoid him.
The meeting had already got off to a bad start when it was apparent that the starting tapes had suffered a terminal malfunction and after a 45 minute delay, races were started using elastic.
When it did start, Tigers wasted no time in piling up the points, quickly building a 25-11 lead. It could’ve been worse for the visitors as Wilkinson in heat 3 and Lunna in heat 4 had passed the quicker starting home men during the race.
Carl Wilkinson was brought out as a TR in heat 7 and looked like the visitors would pick up a 5-3 only for his engine to blow causing the chasing Sarjeant to fall to avoid a collision. Theo Pijper did however take Scunthorpe’s first heat win in the re-run.
After the delay with Smith, Tigers quickly started to increase their lead with three 4-2s before Barker, who had been poor to this point, stunned Aaron Summers with an outside pass on the second bend, despite the Tiger being up against the fence.
There was another bad looking crash in heat 14 with Wilson losing a chain and being hit by the following Lunna who couldn’t avoid him. Amazingly Palovaara was awarded second despite being last as they had entered the corner.
Richard Lawson finished the meeting with a tapes to flag win and an 18 point maximum.
Varied Results
It was actually an entertaining enough match despite the long delays, although in truth Scunthorpe were poor. Wilkinson pulled out after two rides with no machinery and no one seemingly to loan him one either, while both guests had too many poor rides. Theo Pijper was as usual competitive, while Nike Lunna was an impressive debutant.
The home side coped well with rider replacement, with Lawson never looking like being beaten. Smith was having a good afternoon before his crash, while both reserves scored heavily.
Tigers will hope that they can cope with being a rider short with some hard home matches still to come this month.
