Glasgow bounced back after their poor performance at Peterborough with an emphatic win over fellow title challengers Sheffield.
The visitors had no answer to a rampant home side who won 11 heats and only had 3 last places to re-take second place in the league.
Glasgow got off to a good start, with Richard Lawson easily winning heat 1 for a 4-2.
Jack Smith won heat 2 for the second successive week, while behind him, Tom Perry had to twice overtake Robert Branford after encountering bike problems on the first couple of laps.
Aaron Summers rounded Lasse Bjerre to win heat 3 for a 4-2, whilst Richie Worrall just held off the spectacular Kyle Howarth in heat 4.
With Glasgow 10 up, the black and white helmet came out in heat 5 and Josh Grajczonek looked to have made the start over Summers but Dan Bewley swept around him on the second bend to take the victory.
It looked like Glasgow were onto a 5-1 in heat 6 with Lawson trapping Howarth on the inside allowing Lunna through but he left a gap up the inside of the fourth bend, which Howarth took for another 4-2.
Bjerre took Sheffield’s first heat win in heat 7 just holding off the faster Worrall, while Perry had to drive around Kurtz to share the heat.
Two more home 4-2s followed before a Lawson/Lunna 5-1 over Bjerre had the match almost sewn up at the interval, Glasgow 20 up.
Worrall won heat 11 but the ever entertaining Perry made a mistake on the second lap at the same place where he had originally overtaken Kurtz, to allow the Australian back through for third.
Sheffield finally got their first heat advantage in heat 11 through Bjerre and Stoneman, with Summers splitting them, just running out of laps to catch the Dane.
It was another home 4-2 in heat 13, although momentarily it looked like Worrall would join Lawson for a 5-1 but got crowded out on the back straight by Grajczonek.
Bjerre took another win in heat 14 before Grajczonek ended Lawson’s maximum hopes in the final heat.
In the end a comfortable win for Glasgow, Sheffield’s tail proving to be rather long, with Josh Bates being sorely missed. It’s unlikely they would’ve won in any case as the home side were solid throughout, everyone being paid for a win. Nike Lunna looked better than of late, whilst Jack Smith had his highest home score of the season.
It was another big crowd and they would’ve went home happy after another good win and a not too bad meeting also!!
Next week it’s take 2 against Peterborough, who will unfortunately be without GB star Chris Harris, in another big match.
