Tigers were brought back down to earth after the euphoria of their win at Armadale on Friday by a more determined Edinburgh side. 
Monarchs were probably slight favourites going into the match as the home side looked weaker without Nick Morris, thanks to the World Cup being postponed until Sunday afternoon, and guest Ritchie Worrall not looking like the best choice, given his 4 point score for Newcastle last month. With both sides using R/R and again Edinburgh looking as if they would profit from that more than Glasgow, there were some worried fans in the home camp.
Unfortunately they were right to be worried.
Taking Charge
Edinburgh were quick to show that they mean’t business, opening up an early 15-9 lead. Glasgow looking very sluggish from the tapes in almost every race. Erik Riss’s engine failure in heat 4, keeping the deficit at 6.
Heat 6 looked as if the Tigers would mount a fightback with a 5-1 but Sarjeant spun on the second bend whilst ahead, allowing Craig Cook a clear run around the outside to pass Worrall and another 4-2.
Richard Lawson then took successive heat wins in heats 7 and 8, the latter with James Sarjeant to gain, as it turned out, Glasgow’s only heat advantage with a 5-1.
Any thoughts of a comeback were swiftly ended in heat 9, when Cook went from third to first, while Sarjeant went the opposite way, losing third on the last bend to Max Clegg, turning a 5-1 into a 2-4.
Edinburgh then steadily extended their lead with 4-2s in amongst the shared heats to run out easy winners 51-39.
The home side looked a shadow of the side that had won their previous two home matches against the same opposition this season. Too many mistakes on track costing points and not enough race winners, with only Richard Lawson looking capable of winning heats. Even Lawson came a cropper in heat 15 after going too wide on the 4th bend trying to round Wolbert.
Cook scored a maximum for the Monarchs,taking full advantage of some Glasgow errors, although he also had two tremendous overtakes on the second bend.
Strangely neither Masters or Wolbert rode particularly well but with Sedgmen looking a lot happier with the track than his previous two visits and both reserves chipping in with vital points, the Monarchs always looked like winners.
It will be interesting to see what the BSPA say about Glasgow’s attempts to replace Kozza Smith as Tigers don’t look strong enough to use rider replacement long term.
It was the first time both sides had won both away league matches since 1984.
