Glasgow Tigers joint-owner Gerry Facenna has urged fans to back the team both home and away for the forthcoming Scottish Cup ties. Glasgow and Edinburgh face off tonight in the first fixture of the season in the Scottish Cup final first-leg, with the reverse fixture happening next Friday. In an agreement between the owners, away fans for each match can buy their tickets with their own club, with all the money being kept with them.
Gerry Facenna said: “We really hope that the fans will back us both home and away in these fixtures.”
“In the past there has been a bit of tension between the two clubs but this wasn’t good for either of us. This season we have really came together in order to help Scottish Speedway”.
“I know Edinburgh are bringing a lot of fans tonight and I really hope we can do the same next week. Myself and my two sons Peter and David will be there and we hope to see as many Glasgow fans as possible.”
“Knowing the money will remain with their own club is an important thing. We have fantastic fans and we are one of the best supported clubs in the UK, this is the perfect opportunity to show this and for us to have the biggest travelling fan base as well. We would love for this to be the biggest travelling support for an away match in our history.”
Tickets for next week’s match at Armadale are available to purchase online here, physical tickets can be purchased from the Den and will be sold at tonight’s match. Gerry also hopes that tonight’s match will be a real spectacle.
He said: “We’ve put in a lot of work over the off season, both on and off the track. The track has been widened for more exciting racing and we’ve done work to help improve drainage on the track.”
“A lot of thought and effort has went into the team this year and we are hoping that we will see some success. There’s a real team spirit there already, they are a great, talented bunch.”
“I would also like to take this time to thank those who have purchased a season ticket or plan to come along this year. We couldn’t do what we do without you and we hope that with the facilities and team we can reward your support this season.”
