GLASGOW skipper Craig Cook says his bosses are geniuses after securing the services of Aussie wonderkid Connor Bailey.
The 16-year-old has moved from the other side of the world to pursue his dream of becoming one of the world’s top speedway riders.
He had an eye-catching debut on Friday – picking up his first points for the team and bouncing back from a spectacular crash.
Great Britain star Cook says his new team-mate has loads of star quality as he prepares for the heated atmosphere of his first Scottish derbies this weekend.
He said: “Connor is only going to improve and it was a genius move by the Tigers management to get him on board.
“The kid’s obviously very dedicated and talented, and has a lot going for him. He is going to be a great prospect for the Tigers in the future.
“There’s no pressure on him this year, he’s just got to find his feet and enjoy his racing. I think he’s going to settle in nicely at Glasgow.”
Cook is bidding to lead his team to a second set of victories over Edinburgh after wins at Ashfield and Armadale earlier this season.
He said: “We need points from both meetings – we need to win.
“I believe we have a team that can go there and win – fingers crossed we can do so and then follow it up on Sunday.”
Glasgow boss Cami Brown said: “These are the biggest derbies in British speedway. We are ready to take on the challenge of completing a rare double-double over our closest rivals.”
The Tigers head to Armadale tomorrow (Friday) night before hosting their rivals from the east on Sunday at 3pm.
