The final act of the 2012 season will take place at Ashfield this Sunday afternoon (4.00pm). The “Western Commercial” Tigers take on Berwick in the final meeting of the Premier Challenge Trophy with an almost impossible task required to take the team through to the Final. To make matters worse, the Tigers go into the clash minus no fewer than four of their declared side and will have to rely on guests to fill the breach. Co-Promoter Stewart Dickson will be pleased to see the back of the campaign but at the same time is determined that the side will win this last clash before handing over the reigns to the the new Promotion.
“This year has certainly not panned out as we would have liked and the tone was set in our opening home league meeting which we lost to Leicester, that should not have happened, but since then we have been by and large pretty decent at home. With this being our last meeting in charge we are very keen to go out with a bang, but it will be very hard given that we are missing no fewer than four of our side. As we know Joe Screen, Henning Bager and Josh Grajczonek are all inured but we have also been hit with the news that Mason Campton has indicated that he is heading back to Australia on Saturday despite our pleas for him to stay. It is a strange situation as Mason is not deemed to be witholding services but we are not entitled to a facility to replace him! Nevertheless we are going all out to win the meeting and give the fans something to shout about as we bring the curtain down on our 12 year period in charge of the greatest speedway club in the world.
Our captain Joe Screen is set to be in attendance too which will allow a large chunk of the team to say their farewells on Sunday and it definitely will be an emotional afternoon, it will also be the last weekend where the Championship Trophy will be at Ashfield but I sincerely hope that it will find a way back to the Club at some point in the future under the new Promotion, who I wish the very best of luck to.”
TEAMS:
Glasgow – Ryan Fisher, Joe Jacobs, Kevin Doolan, Henning Bager r/r, James Grieves, James McBain, Charles Wright
Berwick – Richard Lawson, Mickey Dyer, Robin Aspegren, David Bellego, Seb Alden, Guest for Klaus Jakobsen, Nikki Barratt
In order for the Tigers to pull off the shock of the season they require to win by 46 points, while Berwick will take their place in the Final if they can avoid a defeat of 12 points or more. Meanwhile a final Press Release will follow early next week with new Press Officer Derek Smith taking over from then.
