Glasgow Tigers Speedway took part in this year’s national Disabled Access Day on Saturday 12th of March, holding a speedway demonstration at the Peugeot Ashfield Stadium for people with disabilities and their carers.
Spectators were treated to tea and coffee on arrival at the Tigers Den Diner while team manager Stewart Dickson gave everyone an introduction to speedway, with many in attendance being completely new to speedway! After an expert explanation of the rules, riders, club and equipment everyone took their place in the stadium’s dedicated disabled access viewing area to watch Tigers riders Coty Garcia and Ryan McDonald speed round the track in preparation for their upcoming 2016 season.
Conditions weren’t ideal and Coty was definitely missing his Argentinian climate as he raced the track with his body warmer on! The riders put on a great show for everyone in attendance despite the conditions and definitely gave a taste of what’s on offer at a full speedway meeting.
After the demonstration everyone went inside for a Q & A session with the riders, who were more than happy to answer any questions which were fired their way.
All in all a great event which hopefully introduced some new fans to speedway and showcased the Peugeot Ashfield Stadium’s accessibility for fans who have disabilities or mobility requirements.
