CRAIG COOK has paid tribute to Glasgow for kickstarting his bid to get back to the top of the sport. The Cumbrian was snapped up by the Allied Vehicles Tigers’ last July after a serious injury to popular Lewis Kerr.
Cook, 31, has been an instant hero, incredibly losing only one race at Ashfield Stadium since joining the club and reeling off four successive maximums. But the former British Champion, who celebrates his testimonial at Ashfield on Saturday night, has vowed to get even better. He said: “I have to say that I’m loving it at Glasgow.
“I’ve joined a club with the same mentality as me. They want to be successful and winners and that’s what I’m all about.“The Facenna family owners are trying to take speedway to a new level for entertainment, social media and publicity and that’s what needs to happen.
“I would love to help them win some more silverware but the priority right now is to provide top class entertainment. The racing last week was outstanding.
“There’s no doubt that Glasgow are giving me the platform to be more successful. I want to regain my British Championship and Grand Prix place.
“I believe that my UK base at Glasgow can help me go to the highest level I ever have in the sport. The best is yet to come.”
The Whitehaven star is looking forward to his big night at Ashfield with some great pals who have helped him achieve those goals so far.
He said: “Obviously I have a huge emotional attachment to Edinburgh, Workington and Belle Vue along with my current club Glasgow.
“I had some great years at Edinburgh with some great riders and fans. Likewise my home town club Workington and Belle Vue. I’m hoping to see a lot of fans from those clubs because that would mean a lot to me.
“It should be an entertaining night and the weather forecast is awesome. We’ve got some class riders with the likes of Max, Sam and Ricky as the No.1s.
“There’s Easter eggs for the kids and all four mad mascots from each club will be having their own race which has never been done before, so it’ll be fun.
“I’ve got exclusive posters to sign and a commemorative programme as well. I’m really looking forward to it. I can’t quite believe I’m here having my testimonial. But I know it will be an awesome night for everyone.”
