The “Western Commercial” Tigers management are to make a statement on Sunday at the home meeting with Workington with regard to the future of the club. Despite winning the title in 2011, the team found he financial position somewhat precarious due to extensive track work and continual expenditure on the football pitch. As a consequence, allied to a couple of lower than expected crowds this season, the Promotion are to make a statement on Sunday with regard to the team’s future.
On track the Tigers face up to a Comets side who are among the favourites for the title this season. They have started well with a win at Sheffield and a narrow 1 point loss at Newcastle. At home they have topped 60 points in their two fitures so far. Captain Joe Screen knows that a tough assignment awaits the stripes on Sunday:
“I do like the look of the Comets side and I suspect that they will be there or there abouts at the end of the season. I know that we beat them very easily at Ashfield last season and they have a lot of the same riders in their side this year, but they are coming here full of confidence and I think we will have to be at our very best to get the points. In saying that our performance last weekend was so much better than the week before and I think we learnt a lot from that defeat. Berwick came and expected to roll us over but we dug deep and were able to win with something to spare.
If we are to come away with a win this week then it is essential that all members of the team perform to the level that we know they are capable of and I will be instilling that into them as we take to the track. I expect it will be a great battle between two good sides and hopefully there will be a big crowd there to see it.”
